United Accreditation Foundation UAF Accreditation scheme for Medical Imaging Units is strictly built as per ISO 15189:2012.
ISO 15189:2012 establishes the precise criteria for excellence and proficiency that are unique to medical imaging units. This standard aims to promote uniformity in medical practices worldwide, ensuring the well-being and safety of both patients and healthcare providers. In the realm of health safety, imaging units play a critical role as essential partners. Remarkably, imaging results account for 75% of medical diagnoses. Therefore, the quality of imaging services directly impacts the overall quality of healthcare. Consequently, clinical imaging must strive to provide optimal patient care by promoting excellence. The International Standard ISO 15189 lays down requirements for competence and quality in medical laboratories and imaging units. By obtaining accreditation, these units enhance their credibility and demonstrate their competency in delivering testing services. It encompasses all components necessary for a medical laboratory’s quality management system while also establishing technical requirements needed to validate a laboratory’s ability to perform specific medical tests with expertise. Additionally, accreditation aids laboratories in meeting national regulatory mandates. Currently, this scheme is undergoing revision, and updated scheme requirements will become available shortly.
